Google was founded on September 4, 1998, by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California. Initially called "Backrub," the search engine was later renamed to Google, a playful name inspired by the mathematical term "googol." Google's algorithm used links to determine a website's relevance and ranking, revolutionizing search engines.
In 2000, Google launched AdWords, a pay-per-click advertising platform that transformed online advertising. Google acquired YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion, expanding its presence in video sharing. Google Maps was launched in 2005, providing interactive maps and directions. Google Chrome, one of the most popular web browsers, was launched in 2008.
Google's first storage was made from LEGO bricks, housing 10 4GB hard drives. The company's name is a mathematical reference, inspired by the term "googol," representing a huge number (1 followed by 100 zeros). Google has a secret laboratory called "Google X" where researchers and engineers work on top-secret projects.
Today, Google is a global technology leader, offering a range of products and services, including Google Search, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, and Google Assistant.
