What is DDoS?

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) is a type of cyberattack where an attacker attempts to make a computer or network resource unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources. This traffic can come from compromised devices, such as computers, smartphones, or IoT devices, which are controlled remotely by the attacker.

Advantages of DDoS (from an attacker's perspective)👇

1. Difficulty in tracing: DDoS attacks are challenging to trace, as the traffic comes from multiple sources.

2. Overwhelming force: The sheer volume of traffic can overwhelm even the most robust systems.

3. Low cost: Launching a DDoS attack can be relatively inexpensive, as attackers can use compromised devices or rent botnets.

4. High impact: DDoS attacks can cause significant disruptions to businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Disadvantages of DDoS (from a victim's perspective)👇

1. System downtime: DDoS attacks can cause systems to become unavailable, leading to lost productivity and revenue.

2. Data loss and corruption: DDoS attacks can result in data loss or corruption, which can be difficult and costly to recover.

3. Financial losses: DDoS attacks can lead to significant financial losses, particularly for businesses that rely on online transactions.

4. Reputational damage: DDoS attacks can damage an organization's reputation, leading to loss of customer trust and loyalty.

5. Difficulty in mitigation: DDoS attacks can be challenging to mitigate, particularly if the attacker is using a large botnet.

6. Resource intensive: Mitigating DDoS attacks can require significant resources, including bandwidth, processing power, and expertise.
